NPC Bodybuilder Dan Puckett Found Dead
2006 NPC Teen & Collegiate National Championships
An autopsy will be conducted today to determine what killed a national bodybuilding champion who was a student at the University of Alabama.
Dan Puckett, 22, was a senior at UA who would have graduated in December. His roommate found him dead Wednesday morning in the bathroom of their apartment at Courtwoods on 15th Street, said Capt. Loyd Baker, commander of the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit.
Pucketts roommate last saw him at about 1 p.m. Tuesday. He had returned home from the gym and complained of a possible muscle injury.
The roommate left and returned at 7 a.m. He couldnt get an answer at the door and got a call that no one had heard from him since Tuesday afternoon, Baker said. When he got no response, he forced his way in and found him on the bathroom floor.
There were no visible signs of trauma, Baker said, or any suggestion of foul play. The autopsy could reveal a preliminary cause of death today, but investigators might have to wait until toxicology results are returned for a final determination, which could take weeks.
Puckett was from Muscle Shoals. He was majoring in marketing at UAs School of Commerce and Business Administration. He was the Heavyweight Winner of the 2006 NPC Teenage/Collegiate National Bodybuilding contest held in Pittsburgh.
