A Guide From A to Z: How To Love Your Naked Body

A Guide From A to Z: How To Love Your Naked Body
By: Pamela Blackburn

If you are like most women in America, you find it almost impossible to love your body. The thought of standing in front of a mirror can be downright horrifying! If you could play the leading role in this frightening episode, read on for an A-Z guide to learning to love your body buff!

A. Attitude & Acceptance

Have you ever noticed a woman who seemed to have all the attention of men, yet you did not know why? Maybe on the outer surface it was not obvious. Perhaps she was not even attractive.

A major key in loving your body is acceptance of yourself as a unique human being. The most important quality is attitude. More than likely, that woman had a very flattering and enticing attitude.

Attitude is your state of mind. This state of mind carries over into the way that you carry yourself. This is why someone who feels good about themselves can be so attractive. They are not worried about competing with others or covering up their shortcomings.

Conversely, we have all met people who appear beautiful on the outside, but their attitude makes them awkward. Therefore, an attitude of self-assurance and confidence can go a long way in the perception of your body by self and others. It may not come naturally at first, but practice can make big improvements.

B. Belief

Belief is a close cousin of attitude and acceptance. If you can get to the point of believing that you are attractive and have an appealing body, your attitude will adjust upward. If you are not quite where you would ideally like to be, you must still believe that loving your body is obtainable.

If you cannot ever get to the point of believing in the possibility, I can assure you that it will never happen. Believe in yourself and your ability to make positive changes in your life. This belief needs to be very strong, so self-talk within yourself continuously about your positive qualities and possibilities.

C. Confidence

Confidence can be very sexy. Done right, with the absence of arrogance, most men love a confident woman. I know it can be difficult to feel confident when naked, but the truth of the matter is that everyone has her own set of perceived imperfections. The ability to see them and feel confident despite imperfections can be very powerful, indeed!

Stop striving for perfection and enjoy what you have at every stage of life. You may look better or worse than you will five years from now, but you need to have the confidence in yourself to enjoy your body and your life at all stages of the game.

Do not be tempted to wait until you look better, or lose ten pounds to appreciate and enjoy your body. Enjoy your body for what it is right at this moment. Life is too short to put things off so take pride in yourself today and let your confidence shine through.

D. Drinking Water

I know you have heard it a million times before, but you will benefit in many ways from an adequate daily supply of water. The benefits range from fighting fatigue and curbing hunger, to more radiant looking skin. Did you know that by depriving yourself of enough water you may actually be giving yourself that bloated looking tummy you hate while naked? That’s right!

If you do not drink enough water you will actually retain water which can cause the pooching and expanding that we are trying to avoid. The way to prevent too much water retention is to limit your sodium intake and, most importantly, to drink enough water on a daily basis.

If you exercise, you will need even more water to replenish your reserves and feed your muscles. Keep in mind that according to most experts, muscle is about 70% water. By the way, lean people have more water in their bodies because muscle holds more water than adipose tissue.

Almost every cell in the human body needs water to function correctly. According to the Cleveland Clinic, the lungs expel between 2-4 cups of water each day just from normal breathing! While dehydration would take a 10 percent loss of bodyweight in fluids, a mere 2 percent is enough to affect athletic performance, cause fatigue and dull thinking abilities.

E. Exercise

Ah, exercise! This is the most powerful way to change what you see that you do not like while naked. While genetics play a big role in the body we get, what is able to be changed will be changed dramatically by exercise.

Whether you want a sleek, toned look, a confident muscular build, or simply to remain at your ideal weight, exercise can help you achieve the naked body of your dreams!

Make sure that you incorporate cardiovascular training, resistance work and flexibility routines into your weekly schedule. Not only will you look better, but you will sleep better, renew your energy, and build your confidence.

Strength training will put some haste into loving your body. The resistance of weight is the tool that will chisel your body into the goddess you long to be. Do not be afraid of strength training! It is very difficult for women to bulk up and build large, visible muscles. However, the muscle you do develop by strength training has many benefits.

Muscle will enhance your ability to burn fat throughout the day more efficiently. Muscle is sleek and lean. In addition, strength training is helpful for retaining bone density, an issue for all women as we continue to age.

No matter what your age and/or fitness level, make sure you incorporate resistance training into your life. By the way, you may be pleasantly surprised at the feeling of empowerment you receive when lifting weights. Another dynamic benefit!

An exercise plan is something that everyone should do and a must for loving your body naked.

F. Flattery

When was the last time you flattered yourself? You must try it! It is so easy to pick out all of the flaws or perceived flaws you have. Instead of standing in front of the mirror picking yourself apart, try recognizing your positive attributes and flattering yourself on them.

Focus on these good points and be thankful for them. I can hear you now – you may be saying that you have tried looking and you just do not find anything worthy of flattery. But I am telling you that you are not seeing clearly!

You do have parts worth praising and I want you to find them, acknowledge them and focus on them. It may be your alluring eyes, long legs, or lean arms. More will come with time when you can love your full self. So flatter yourself!

G. Goals

Setting goals is another must for liking yourself naked. If you do not appreciate what you see, you must have a game plan to get there. Do not use something arbitrary such as “I want to lose weight.” Goals should be “SMART.”

This stands for:

Specific (provide details, how long, how much, etc.)
Measurable (how will you measure whether you have reached your goals)
Attainable (be realistic, set smaller goals)
Reward-based (attach a reward to each goal)
Time Frame (set specific dates for goals)

Utilizing this protocol will increase your chances at being successful at achieving your goals. You will also want to spend some time really thinking about how you will feel once you reach your goals. This can be a strong motivator to continue the pursuit.

H. Hair Removal

I love the feeling of smooth, hair-free legs. I just cannot feel sexy with hair growth. While it might be tempting to skip a day or two from shaving, especially in the winter, keep up with the practice at any rate. When you take your clothes off, it will almost definitely improve your perspective!

There are so many painless or relatively painless options available beyond shaving that will last much longer, including waxing and lasers. While you are at it, do not skip that bikini line! If you have not dared trying it before, why not experience a Brazilian wax and see how you feel and if it changes your attitude!

I. Illuminate

Do not set yourself up for failure while trying to appreciate your naked self. In other words, do not camp out under fluorescent lights, for example. Do what will help to enhance your mood and experience. Light candles, dim lights, use music. Who cares if tomorrow morning you will be out of the shower in daylight.

Learn to love yourself first in an accommodating environment and then carry those features and emotions into all modes and times. You will also learn that variables such as lighting affect us all in positive and negative ways. Have you ever tried on a swimsuit under fluorescent lighting? Yuck!

Your glamour covers and supermodels are never photographed under such grotesque conditions. Whatever you do, do not judge yourself unfairly by making the stakes more difficult. Muted, soft lighting or specially-placed direct lighting will often make you look your best.

J. Jumping Rope Or Jogging

Jump Rope Obtaining some daily physical activity can really jump start your dreams of appreciating yourself naked. In case you are an excuse queen, you do not need much money, fancy equipment, or a gym membership.

Two great modes of movement are a simple jump rope and jogging. In both cases, all you need is a good pair of shoes, a little time, and the great outdoors.

You may have to start slow, but that is to be expected. Simply add another minute or two at each session. I promise that you will be amazed at the results. As an added benefit, you may have just achieved a challenge that you did not think you could do. This can be very empowering.

K. Kittenish

Learn to lighten up, especially when appreciating your body! You have many other venues to practice your seriousness and critiquing ability.

Your body does not need to be so heavily involved in those activities. Loosen up and be playful.

Learn to laugh more. Being kittenish is also related to attitude. The more you can begin to lighten up and be playful, the more these traits will rub off on others around you. The practice is contagious – in a good way!

L. Love

This should be obvious by now, but you must learn to love yourself if you can ever expect to love your body. It is so common for women to feel inferior, lack self-confidence and to feel unworthy of joy and happiness.

You must realize that you are worthy of love and to be esteemed. Do you see how you could never love your body, and certainly not naked, if you do not feel worthy of love in general? You must love and appreciate yourself the same way you love others. An unconditional love is your ultimate goal.

M. Movement

Movement of your beautiful body is so important in the issue of loving yourself naked. Movement will tone, provide energy and enhance circulation.

You may even try modalities such as yoga to further enhance the feeling of being in tune with your body. Do not expect to sit at a desk all day, move only to your car to go through a drive through at a fast food joint, then sit all night watching television and then love yourself naked. I would find that an incredibly difficult, if not impossible, task.

You must move around and not become sedentary. The lack of movement among Americans is becoming a problem of epidemic proportions. Use a positive goal to get yourself up and off that couch to enhance your body image!

N. Nutrition

Good nutrition is a vital element to loving yourself naked! I would never imply that you had to eat a diet consisting of rabbit food, but I would also never recommend fast food either.

In order to eat for the body of your dreams, you need a balance of lean proteins, whole grains, fibrous vegetables and healthy fats.

Food is your energy source and you must eat in order to attain your goals and keep your body in great form. However, do not be fooled into thinking that you should starve yourself all day only to indulge in an all-out feast later at night.

The more you can spread out smaller meals evenly throughout the day, the less you will experience dramatic energy fluctuations and reap the rewards of a beautiful, healthy body. Have a professional aid you in determining the optimal amount of calories that you should be consuming.

O. Oeuvre D’Art

When was the last time you considered your body as a work of art? That is exactly what I am asking you to do! Recall your most recent visit to a museum or art gallery. What is art and what do you do with it? One definition of art is to create a sense of beauty or pleasure, or to generate strong emotions. It is made to be admired and appreciated.

My challenge to you in this exercise of learning to love your body naked is to think of it as a work of art. Appreciate what was put into creating and maintaining it. Admire the intricacies of how it works and functions. Marvel in its beauty. There is only one in the world and it belongs to you!

P. Passion

What are you passionate about? If you do not know, it is time to consider finding out. Most of us are happier when we are engaged in activities and thoughts that fuel our passions. Think of the times you have been the happiest. What was it about those events that brought such fulfillment?

Seek to replicate those situations and constantly search out additional passionate sources. When you are happier throughout the day and on an ongoing basis, the chances are much greater that your spirits will still be lifted when it is time to appreciate your body.

Q. Quaggy-Free

In our quest to loving our body naked, we will aim to be free from being quaggy (flabby). Flabbiness will often halt our best mental efforts at loving ourselves naked. Try as we might, contortioning in a mirror to view all of our angles only to see bits of flab is likely to defeat our self-love, especially on a particularly difficult day. To quash any quagginess, get with an exercise program and nutritious eating program right away.

R. Realistic

Learning to love your body naked will take a lesson in reality. You must learn to be realistic both in what you see and what you can achieve. If you are short, you cannot expect to grow taller and if you have a body type that easily stores fat, you must accept that, too.

At the same time, make sure you keep reality in perspective. Do not allow yourself to compare your body with those shown in publications. Lighting, airbrushing, and photoshopping can work wonders on any woman, but this is not reality.

Work on the aspects of disappointment you can change and do not fret over the realities you cannot. If necessary, enlist a friend who cares about you to help get reality into a healthy perspective.

S. Self Acceptance

Do you truly accept yourself? This goes for who you are, as well as your body. For many women, genuine self acceptance can be very difficult. It is so easy to get caught up and stuck with our perceived flaws and imperfections.

A little exercise that many psychologists assign to their patients is to make a list of one hundred qualities that you like about yourself. While this may seem overwhelming at first, sit down and start thinking. Be honest and document all of the positive qualities and attributes that you own.

If you get stuck before you write down one hundred, enlist the help of your family. Re-read this list if you get discouraged and get down on yourself. It will remind you of all the wonderful reasons that you are a unique, beautiful person with the power to be your best.

T. Train Progressively

When you go to the gym, do you perform the same workout every time? If so, your body is eventually going to plateau by becoming too efficient at that particular workout. In order to keep seeing results in your quest to a sculpted body, you must continually change the way you challenge it.

What’s A Plateau?
A level of attainment or achievement in weight loss or bodybuilding where one gets “stuck in a rut”, barring further progress or noticable results. As obvious as it may seem, if you continue to do the same thing, you will continue to get the same results. Click here for tips on breaking through plateaus.

There are many ways in which you can make simple changes to enhance your workouts. Some examples are: using different modalities of cardio, interval training, varying the speed of your lifts and utilizing different machines. If you are able to do two workout sessions, try doing your cardio workout in the morning and your strength training routine later in the day.

If this is too difficult or intimidating for you, do not give up! Hire a professional to change up your routine for you. Even for those people who cannot afford a personal trainer on a regular basis, a monthly program design is usually an affordable option.

U. Underwear

All right, ladies… this one should be a no-brainer. We all feel more sexy and better about our naked bodies when wearing pretty under-attire. It is possible to get great fitting undergarments that look beautiful.

Start with a professional fitting to determine your correct size. Too many of us are squeezing into sizes that are actually too small making us feel and look unattractive in the long run.

Once your size is revealed, pick foundations that are lovely. When you look at your body, it will instantly be more beautiful when wrapped in pretty packages. You should also resist the temptation to “wait until you lose weight” to buy such items.

Simply buy the minimum that you need and reward yourself later with additional purchases if your size changes. The goal is to look beautiful and love your body now!

V. Vitamins & Supplements

Even if you eat a well-balanced diet, a good multivitamin with antioxidants will help to ensure that you do not become deficient in any nutrients.

Not only will you potentially feel better by taking a regular vitamin, but you may also notice increased energy and be able to fight off illnesses faster.

Do not develop total fat phobia. We all need essential fatty acids, which include Linoleic Acid, Omega 6, Omega 3 and Alpha-Linolenic Acid. Flax oil is a great source of Omega 3 LNA. You may consider supplementing your diet with flax oil for it’s many benefits relating to good health and fat loss.

For example, Omega 3 fatty acids may block fat storage and increase fat burning. It has also been shown to suppress the appetite. Omega 3 shortens the recovery time of tired muscles and helps reduce water retention. It can also increase energy!

In addition, more positive benefits of Omega 3 include anti-inflammatory properties and may also be useful in the treatment of high triglycerides, cardiovascular conditions, diabetes and skin, hair and nails.

Omega 3 has also been found to elevate mood and cause improvement in some behavioral conditions. It may also be helpful in the treatment of depression, and who couldn’t benefit from being in a better mood?

You will more than likely feel better about yourself when experiencing all-around good health, so make sure you are receiving adequate nutrition.

W. Whey Protein

Whey protein is a wonderful way to supplement your diet while aiding in weight loss, suppressing hunger and improving mood, according to some experts. Whey protein isolate is a great source of essential amino acids. Essential amino acids are building blocks for healthy muscles, skin, nails and other body tissues.

Whey protein is a naturally complete protein containing all of the essential amino acids which make it perfect in helping improve body composition as well as having little to no fat or carbohydrates. Protein can help reduce hunger by lowering insulin levels, making it easier for the body to burn fat.

Whey protein also contains components that aid in stimulating the release of cholecystokinin and glucagon-like peptide, two appetite suppressing hormones. Therefore, having whey protein with a meal may help in curbing hunger at the next meal.

Additionally, some studies have shown that whey protein can aid in decreasing cortisol levels and reducing depression in stress-vulnerable individuals. Keeping your diet clean and nutritious will work wonders for the way you view your body!

X. Xtra Special

Do something for yourself that is extra special. Take some time to pamper yourself and relax. You must schedule in time to take care of you – and do not feel guilty about it. Perhaps taking an hour for a pedicure would recharge you.

A makeup lesson could be just what it takes to make you feel beautiful. Ah, finding the perfect outfit to flatter and frame your figure could certainly make you feel special!

You will feel so much better that it will also be good for those around you as you feel refreshed and renewed. This will benefit your family as much as yourself as you will more than likely be in a better mood – so do not feel guilty. Schedule something special just for you!

Y. Yes

Develop a “Yes” attitude. Learn to hear, “Yes, I can” in your self-talk. Yes, you can eat healthy foods in moderation. Yes, you can exercise daily. Yes, you can pamper yourself. Yes, you can appreciate your differences and uniqueness. Yes, you have the power to make improvements.

Yes, you can get past temporary setbacks. Believing that you can make improvements will ensure that you do. In fact, if you do not believe that you can improve and learn to love your body, I guarantee you never will. But, you can do what it takes to feel good about yourself.

Most importantly, do not take “no” for an answer when it comes to feeling good about yourself and doing what it takes to meet your goals. Do not give up. You must learn to say “Yes!”

Z. Zest

What is zest? It is spirited enjoyment or enthusiasm. It is zest that you need to feel for your body. Enjoy your body where it is now and be enthused with where you will bring it.

Use your excitement to put the energy into sculpting it into the work of art that it is. Enjoy the reality of what is uniquely yours. Create your own spirit of enjoyment of your body today and be enthused about what tomorrow will bring!

Even if your body is not 100% where you would like it to be, so what? Appreciate it where it is now anyway and keep working on improving what you realistically can. Life is too short to keep waiting until… (I lose weight, I tone up, I fix my butt).

Appreciate what you have been given to work with now and enjoy it to the fullest. Tomorrow is another day. Make today matter.

Take care of your body. Mold it into the best it can be and respect it through nutrition and exercise. You are a work in progress so enjoy today and be enthusiastic about tomorrow and the future!
